With receiver Vincent Jackson and tackle Marcus McNeal holding out, the San Diego Chargers continue to take as strong a stance with the pair as the league allows.
The San Diego Union Tribune reports that the team sent the two players a letter informing them that the team will place them on the Roster Exempt List if they do not sign their tenders by Aug. 20. That means the players will not ineligible to play for three games after they report. The team is covering its bases but the move may be moot.
It looks more likely each day that both Jackson and McNeill are planning to sit out the entire season. The only way to end a holdout may be through a trade. Washington and Seattle are among the teams interested in Jackson, but that may be a long shot.
Meanwhile, Shawne Merriman (who just ended his holdout) and running back Darren Sproles are among the players who will not play Saturday against the Bears.
