Former New York Jets receiver David Clowney tweeted that he was on the way to Kansas City. A league source said Clowney is headed to Kansas City for a tryout with the Chiefs. If Clowney has a strong workout, perhaps Kansas City will consider signing him before Monday night’s game against San Diego.
The Chiefs could use some depth at receiver. Clowney, 25, had 14 catches for the Jets last season and he has 15 catches in three NFL seasons.
In other AFC West-related news early Thursday afternoon:
Miami has cut center Jake Grove a year after giving the former Raider big money. While Grove is on the back nine of his career, perhaps Oakland will be interested in signing Grove, at least, as a backup. Oakland is starting rookie Jared Veldheer at center despite him having limited experience there. If Grove is pursued by Oakland, it will likely be after Sunday’s game at Tennessee.
