AFC West mock draft (take 2)

Posted by ESPN.com's Bill Williamson

This is the second in what will be periodic attempts at projecting the AFC West team's first-round picks. (Click here for the first go-round.) There will be developments leading up to the April 25-26 draft that will change draft boards. The NFL combine, which is wrapping up in Indianapolis, is the latest source of information for teams to digest.

Here is a look at each AFC West team and who I believe they may select at this point. Again, we'll check in more as the draft approaches:

3. Kansas City, Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest: Curry is considered by many as a can't-miss prospect who performed well at the combine. He is a safe pick and he fills a gaping hole for the Chiefs.

First mock draft choice: Andre Smith, OT, Alabama

Why the change: Smith's recent missteps are too worrisome and creates too big of a risk for the Chiefs to spend the No. 3 pick on him.

7. Oakland, Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech: Because of his foot injury, Crabtree could be available at No. 7 and he would be a huge value choice there. Raiders' owner Al Davis may be too tempted to add this speed receiver to pass up for him in favor of an offensive tackle.

First mock draft choice: Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia

Why the change: The chance of Crabtree falling to Oakland makes too much sense right now.

12. Denver, Rey Maualuga, LB, USC: The Broncos need major help on defense. Maualuga would fit in with the team and give Denver a pretty strong linebacking crew. The team also likes Boston College defensive tackle B.J. Raji but he is moving up the draft board fast. Maualuga wouldn't be a bad consolation prize.

First mock draft choice: Maualuga

16. San Diego, Brian Cushing, LB, USC: If LaDainian Tomlinson ends up getting cut the Chargers may go running back or they could look at a guard or tackle. But right now we are going with Cushing who is a playmaker. The Chargers' defense needs more playmakers but this choice is going to be fluid.

First mock draft choice: Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia

Why the change: It's based on Tomlinson coming back. If not, all bets are off.

Again, we'll update our picks as we move closer to the draft.
