Brodie Croyle may be forced to throw

SAN DIEGO –- The Kansas City Chiefs would have loved to use the running game against the San Diego Chargers, the formula Oakland employed last week to beat the Chargers.

The Chiefs likely won’t have that luxury. San Diego just took a 14-0 lead with 6:47 remaining in the first half.

The Chiefs, who have the No. 1 ground game in the NFL, is likely going to have to throw. That is a problem because backup Brodie Croyle is playing with Matt Cassel out because of an appendectomy.

The Chiefs have had three series and Croyle completed 3-of-4 passes for 11 yards. The Chiefs have a very conservative game plan. Trailing by 14, Kansas City is going to try to open up its offense.
