The first four paragraphs of a press release sent out by the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday was no surprise. But the fifth and final paragraph was unexpected.
The Missouri product was a fourth-round pick last year and he was highly regarded by the former Kansas City regime despite a quiet rookie season He played in 13 games last season and made one start. He had seven catches for 83 yards. Franklin was the 105th player taken in the 2008 draft and was the highest draft pick from the class to be cut thus far.
Clearly, the new Kansas City regime was not enamored with Franklin despite the team's need for young receivers. It wouldn't be a shock if Franklin is claimed by another team.
