Report: Franklin claimed off waivers

Fox Sports is reporting that Detroit claimed receiver Will Franklin off waivers from Kansas City.

The Chiefs cut Franklin on Monday. He was a fourth-round draft pick last season. Sources said he was cut because he didn't fit in with the Chiefs' new system. Franklin was the 105th player taken last season and is the highest draft choice from the 2008 class to be cut to date. Franklin had seven catches in 13 games last season.

It was not a shock Franklin was claimed because many teams probably had him fairly highly ranked last season. The report said Oakland was one of four other teams to put a claim on Franklin. Detroit was awarded him because it had the worst record of the teams selecting. That is the criteria when there are multiple claims out on a player. Oakland is looking for young receivers, so it makes sense that it would put a claim on Franklin.

Meanwhile, it is being reported that the Falcons and Chiefs have not yet discussed a trade that would send star Kansas City tight end Tony Gonzalez to the Falcons. Kansas City owner Clark Hunt said last month the team doesn't want to trade Gonzalez.
