Could McDaniels, Orton end up Vikings?

ESPN’s Ed Werder is reporting that former Denver head coach Josh McDaniels will interview for an assistant job (very likely offensive coordinator) in Minnesota.

There has been talk that McDaniel could have had interest as the head coach in San Francisco and Oakland. I think McDaniels wants to be an offensive coordinator in the right spot and then try to become a head coach within two years.

If McDaniels ends up in Minnesota, I could see the Vikings trying to make a play for Denver quarterback Kyle Orton, who flourished under McDaniels and who will likely be available through a trade. Denver would probably want a second-round pick for Orton from the Vikings.

Meanwhile, as expected, the Broncos have begun the progress of trying to talk to Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh. New Denver leader John Elway said Wednesday he would call Harbaugh. The Stanford coach is also being pursued by Miami. It will likely come down to money for Harbaugh’s services and it would be a surprise if Denver writes a bigger check than Miami.
