I just checked in with Wimbley’s agent, Joe Linta, to clear up the situation. Linta confirmed that Oakland has a contract buyback of about $3.5 million for 2011. If Oakland doesn’t exercise the option, Wimbley would be a free agent. However, Linta said he fully expects that Oakland will exercise the option and secure one of its best pass rushers. Linta said that Wimbley has not yet been officially notified of the exercise.
“There’s no issues,” Linta said. “We fully expect Kamerion back in Oakland and he is good to go. He likes it there and he is looking forward to continue to help the Raiders.”
Wimbley was acquired in a trade with Cleveland last March. Wimbley had a solid first season in Oakland. He finished with nine sacks.
