Last week, new Oakland "backup" quarterback Jeff Garcia raised some eyebrows when he went on a Los Angeles radio station. Garcia basically said if he gives the Raiders a better chance to win than JaMarcus Russell does, he should be the starting quarterback in Oakland. Garcia said the only way Russell should be the starter is if he earns it.
There is nothing wrong with Garcia's comments. But it didn't sound like the words of a mentor. It sounded like the words of a competitor. However, Oakland has said Garcia was signed to be a backup.
What do you think? Do you think Garcia should be quiet and help Russell's career as a mentor or do you want the Raiders to scrap (or delay) the Russell movement in favor of the 39-year-old Garcia?
Hit my mailbag with your thoughts. I will post some of your responses later in the week.
