Another hoops player turned TE to AFC West?

In a draft diary, Portland State tight end Julius Thomas said he will have a private workout with the Denver Broncos.

Thomas is one of the more interesting mid-to-late round prospects. The former college basketball standout is opening eyes. And his stock is said to be rising. He is 6-5, 250 pounds and is very athletic.

Even though he played just one year of college football, Thomas has looked good in drills and he looks like he is a player with a ton of upside. He had a strong performance at the NFL combine.

He is getting on the radar of many teams and the Broncos are interested enough to take a private look. I’m interested in seeing if Thomas pans out. Teams have been trying to create the next Antonio Gates for more than five years.

It seems every year there is a former college basketball player who tries to make the transition to NFL tight end. There hasn’t been much success. Perhaps Thomas will be different. At least, he some college football experience.

Perhaps Gates will have a kindred spirit in the AFC West.
