More AFC West love for Kaepernick

Colin Kaepernick grew up in Central California and went to college at Nevada, so he's a West Coast kid.

Keeping up an AFC West trend, the Oakland Raiders will reportedly work out Kaepernick. Denver and Kansas City are among the other NFL teams to work out Kaepernick.

The quarterback is rising up some draft boards. He will likely be either a second or third-round pick. In mock drafts released Wednesday in ESPN.com Insider pieces, Todd McShay has Kaepernick going No. 41 to Washington and Mel Kiper has Kaepernick going No. 76 to San Francisco. Oakland’s first pick is No. 48.

Kaepernick is a smart, strong-armed player, who is a good athlete and a proven winner. He did well at the Senior Bowl in January. He will likely need some time to season in the NFL.

I like the fact that Oakland is looking at Kaepernick. I’d suspect the secretive Raiders are looking at other quarterbacks as well. The Raiders remain committed to Jason Campbell, but he has one more year remaining on his contract. It would be smart for Oakland to consider investing in a young quarterback such as Kaepernick.
