Asomugha slighted in Power Rankings

Oakland Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha finished seventh in our top 10 defensive players Power Rankings.

I know many Raiders’ fans will be miffed that Asomugha was rated low. I agree that he should have been ranked higher. I voted him third.

I’m not surprised Asomugha finished seventh. He was second behind the New York Jets’ Darrelle Revis in the cornerback Power Rankings earlier this spring. Revis finished third in this poll. I had Revis ranked fifth in this poll. AFC South blogger Paul Kuharsky was the only other voter to place Asomugha ahead of Revis in this ranking. Two voters, NFC West blogger Mike Sando and NFC North blogger Kevin Seifert, kept Asomugha off their ballot.

Asomugha is a shut-down player at one of the most important positions on the field. He deserves to be on this list. We’ll get an example of Asomugha’s worth in free agency when he is the highest-paid player on the market.

The only other AFC West player to receive votes was Kansas City linebacker Tamba Hali. He finished in 15h place. Along with AFC East blogger Tim Graham, I voted him 10th. Hali led the AFC with 14.5 sacks in 2010. I thought he deserved more recognition.
