Mike Nolan is taking control of the Broncos' defense.
My take: I think Nolan will be good for the Denver defense. He is a quality coach. But the former San Francisco head coach has his hands full. This is a pretty raw defense, especially on the line. It may take a while before this unit is competitive.
Glenn Dorsey has hit the practice field, but he still seems to be laboring.
My take: Dorsey has to get in shape now. It is ridiculous that he missed the first few days of a pivotal training camp because of condition. Dorsey was average as a rookie and is transitioning to a 3-4 defense. It may take some time before he is comfortable in the new scheme. It will take even more time because he is not in good shape. Dorsey isn't doing himself any favors.
Darrius Heyward-Bey had a good day catching the ball.
My take: Good for him. Heyward-Bey is under a lot of pressure. He has not helped himself as he has dropped several balls in camp so far. But he is capable, and every day he performs wel, will give him confidence that he can succeed in the NFL.
The Chargers are impressed with their new defensive line coach.
My take: I hear a lot of good things about Don Johnson. He is a quality coach who will help a pretty good line. The Chargers need a defensive resurgence this year if they are going to be serious Super Bowl contenders. Johnson should help.
