Breaking down free agency needs

Matt Williamson of Scouts Inc. broke down the top three needs in free agency for every NFL team. Let’s look at Williamson’s needs list for the four AFC West teams:

Needs: DT RB OL

My thoughts: I agree that defensive tackle is Denver’s top need. The Broncos bypassed the position in the draft and desperately need an upgrade there. New Denver coach John Fox recently said running back will be the team’s top priority in free agency, though. I expect Denver to address both positions quickly.

Kansas City

Needs: NT OL OLB

My thoughts: I could see the Chiefs going after a veteran nose tackle hard. They pursued Shaun Rogers before the lockout. I could also see the Chiefs trying to find a right tackle and a receiver.

Needs: TE OL DB

My thoughts: The need for a tight end only comes into play if Zach Miller leaves. I think Oakland will do everything it can to keep Miller. The offensive line needs help and that’s where Oakland must start. If Nnamdi Asomugha and Michael Huff leave, a couple of veteran defensive backs will also be needed.

San Diego

Needs: OLB FS WR

My thoughts: It all depends on if the Chargers lose their own free agents. I think inside linebacker will be an area the Chargers try to address quickly. If Malcom Floyd and Eric Weddle leave, receiver and safety become instant need areas.
