After losing seven tailbacks last season, the Broncos were looking for stability when they bypassed several other needs and drafted running back Knowshon Moreno with the No. 12 overall pick in the April draft.
That's why the team's collective heart sank when Moreno had to leave the Broncos' preseason opener at San Francisco on Friday night after three carries.
However, the team got good news Saturday, according to a source close to the situation. An MRI showed that Moreno has a mild MCL sprain in his knee. He will be monitored carefully and will likely miss some time as a precaution. But at this point, he should be ready for the Broncos' Sept. 13 season opener at Cincinnati.
As the Broncos try to come to grips with the fact that starting quarterback Kyle Orton threw three interceptions on his first three series Friday night, at least they can rest assured that Moreno's injury isn't believed to be too serious.
