Cable case moves along

Colleen Dominguez's report on ESPN.com that Napa, Calif., police plan to interview Oakland head coach Tom Cable soon about an alleged assault involving two assistant coaches shows that this issue is not going away for Cable.

It has been reported that Cable assaulted defensive assistant Randy Hanson, who suffered a broken his jaw.

Cable is going to have to address the issue with authorities now. The NFL is also investigating. Cable could face stiff discipline from the NFL if it is proved he assaulted Hanson.

This has to be a distraction for Cable. How can a head coach talk to police about a potential felony assault case and not be distracted as he tries to prepare for the regular season, which is less than three weeks away?

Still, I don't believe the team as a whole is distracted. I think the Raiders back their coach, but they are not dwelling on it. Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha expressed that during the weekend.

Still, it's an issue for Cable as this case moves along.
