One of the better rivalries in the AFC West is between Kansas City's and Oakland's running games. The Chiefs were No. 1 in the NFL on the ground last season, while Oakland was No. 2.
Both teams are expected to have fantastic run games in 2011. The Chiefs have added fullback Le'Ron McClain to the Jamaal Charles-Thomas Jones combination. McClain, formerly of Baltimore, runs more than the typical fullback. Plus, second-year player Dexter McCluster is going to play more running back than receiver. He should get some third-down action.
In Oakland, the Raiders are raving about fourth-round pick Taiwan Jones. He showed spectacular speed against New Orleans on Sunday. I think he can have the same effect on Oakland’s offense that Darren Sproles had in San Diego. A running game of Darren McFadden, Michael Bush and Jones will be dangerous. And don’t forget fullback Marcel Reece, who is a fine blocker and who has nice hands out of the backfield.
