AFC West notes

Safety Darren Sharper is reportedly going to be among a group of players who will work out for the Denver Broncos on Tuesday.

The name is bigger than the event, folks.

The fact that the Broncos are working out Sharper, 36, and not simply signing him shows there are reservations. Denver defensive coordinator Dennis Allen was Sharper’s secondary coach in New Orleans.

There are doubts around the NFL about how much Sharper has left in the tank. The Broncos already have Brian Dawkins, 37, at safety. Do they really need another elder statesmen back there? The Broncos need help on the defensive front much more than at safety.

The San Diego Union-Tribune writes that we should expect Mike Tolbert to carry the ball more than Ryan Mathews for now. My take? The Chargers are in a good situation and will use both players when they feel it’s necessary. This is not a bad thing.
