Josh McDaniels has not garnered a reputation for being particularly forthright when it comes to personnel matters.
McDaniels comes from New England, where playing it close to the vest has become an art form. However, McDaniels didn’t hesitate in sharing his thoughts about the New York Jets’ reported interest in trading for Pro Bowl receiver Brandon Marshall, who the team has suspended, at least until Sept. 6. McDaniels said no deal is now the works.
“There are no discussions whatsoever taking place between the Denver Broncos and any team in the National Football League regarding Brandon Marshall,” McDaniels. “We are looking forward to having Brandon back on the sixth of September and starting our preparation for Cincinnati with him.”
Of course, anything can change at any time. But McDaniels made a point to let the world know what he’s thinking in this case.
ESPN’s Ed Werder is reporting that Denver is monitoring the Jets for tampering about Marshall. Perhaps that’s why McDaniels was so open.
As for as the tampering charges, Denver might as well monitor the Jets. It doesn’t hurt anything and if on the odd chance, tampering charges are filed and eventually proven, the Broncos could get an extra draft pick out of the deal.
More tampering talk may develop down the road. What we know now is McDaniels wants everyone to believe the Broncos are not talking to any team about trading Marshall.
