Antonio Gates inactive again

As expected, San Diego tight end Antonio Gates is inactive for the third straight game with a nagging foot injury. Randy McMichael will start for Gates at Denver on Sunday.

It’s been apparent for the past couple of weeks that Gates would likely rest through the Chargers’ bye. Barring a major lack of improvement, I’d expect Gates to be able to play Oct. 23 at the New York Jets.

For Denver, cornerback Champ Bailey is active and he is ready to play for the first time since Week1 when he suffered a hamstring injury. Veteran safety Brian Dawkins is also active. He was questionable with an ankle injury that kept him out of much of practice last week.
