Tebow Time: Put up or shut up

OK, Tim Tebow fans, your guy has 11 games to show if he is the future of the Denver Broncos.

The Broncos have told Tebow he will take over for Kyle Orton as the starter after the bye. Tebow’s first start this season will be at Miami on Oct. 23. Ironically, the Dolphins have long planned to honor the Florida Gators' championship team -- Tebow was the star of the team -- on that day.

This decision is not a shock. It has become evident since Tebow spelled Orton in the second half with a 13-point deficit against San Diego on Sunday that Tebow would remain the starter. Tebow almost completed a comeback and the Broncos had a chance on the final play of the game. Denver fans, who have long clamored for Tebow, chanted the second-year player’s name as they left the stadium.

Denver is 1-4. It is not going anywhere soon. It must find out if Tebow is the future. If the Broncos continue to lose, they will stay in the Andrew Luck sweepstakes, potentially reuniting former Stanford star and current Denver leader John Elway with the current Stanford quarterback.

Many people think Denver’s starting quarterback of the future is not on the roster. But Denver is giving Tebow a chance to show he is or isn’t that guy.

I will be back with more coverage on this story later.
