It could be a busy January off the field in the AFC West.
The Kansas City Chiefs guaranteed that there will be offseason change in the division when they fired coach Todd Haley on Monday. There is a strong chance there will be a new head coach in fifty percent of the division.
San Diego coach Norv Turner is expected to be fired if the Chargers don’t make the playoffs. San Diego is 6-7 and two games behind Denver in the AFC West. The Chargers are also two games off the pace in the AFC wild card race. The Chargers will be challenged to make the playoffs.
It has been reported that San Diego could also fire general manager A.J. Smith. If the Chargers jettison both Turner and Smith, it will add either a coach to run the entire program or hire both a general manager and a coach.
The Raiders will likely look at general managers as they move away from the Al Davis era. Even if they don’t pursue a true general manager, I expect the Raiders to consider a significant addition to the front office.
After bringing in John Elway and John Fox last offseason, the Broncos are not expected to do anything significant on the hiring front.
Still, there will be plenty to discuss once the offseason begins in the division and the Chiefs got a head start Monday.
