Raiders get roster exemption for Seymour

The Richard Seymour saga took another incremental turn Friday when the NFL gave the Oakland Raiders a contract exemption.

Seymour was traded from New England to Oakland on Sunday. However, Seymour has not reported to the Raiders. And, Oakland has now re-signed defensive tackle William Joseph who was cut when Oakland acquired Seymour, a star defensive lineman.

Meanwhile, an NFL spokesman said that trades can only be voided if a player fails a physical with his new club if it is part of the trade agreement. The way the Patriots have washed their hands of the situation may suggest that there is no such agreement.

The Boston Herald reports Seymour has received a letter from the Raiders, indicating he has five days to report to the team or risk being suspended for the season. Oakland surrendered a first-round pick in 2011 for Seymour.
