Poll results: Time to dump Rolando McClain

It seems that readers think it is time for the Oakland Raiders to part ways with troubled middle linebacker Rolando McClain.

McClain, the No. 8 overall pick in the 2010 draft, has not been great on the field and he is facing 180 days in an Alabama jail after he was recently convicted of an assault while using a gun last fall while he was away from the team to attend a family funeral. McClain is hoping a jury trial will end the case. Either way, he could face NFL discipline.

It has been suggested by some that the Raiders should cut ties with McClain and move on. In a tight race, our poll takers agree. As of 1:25 p.m. ET Thursday, 52 percent of the voters believe the Raiders should dump McClain, while 48 percent believe he deserves more time.

I agree with the losing side on this one. I think McClain deserves more time to develop, and the Raiders don’t have a better option in a replacement for him at this point. If McClain has a bad season in 2012, I think the Raiders should start making other plans.

However, in this vote, the thought is the time is now for the Raiders to move away from McClain. Thanks to everyone who played along.
