Mailbag: Tracy Porter's future

Weekend mail call:

Bangah from Washington, D.C., wants to know if I think the Oakland Raiders could bring back cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha if he gets cut by the Eagles.

Bill Williamson: Sure, I could see it. First, I could see the Philadelphia Eagles cutting Asomugha because of his contract and the Raiders will have a need at the position. Asomugha will have options, but he won’t be paid nearly as much as was in 2011 when left Oakland because of two poor seasons in Philadelphia. If he goes get cut a possible return to Oakland would be on my radar.

John from Denver wants to know if I think cornerback Tracy Porter will be back with the team next year.

BW: I tend to think not. He signed a one-year deal with the Denver Broncos but has missed seven straight games. Yes, he was dealing with the effects of a seizure, but it seems like he is not currently in the team’s plans.

Jay from Parkersburg, W.V., wants to know if I think the Raiders will take Mountaineers quarterback Geno Smith in the first round next year.

BW: I don’t think so. The Raiders have massive needs on defense to address. Quarterback will not be an immediate need next year.
