Matt Russell won't be going to Chargers

There will no Denver-to San Diego front office shuffle.

CBS Sports reports that Denver personnel man Matt Russell has declined a chance to interview with the Chargers for their general manager opening. Russell is highly valued by Denver leader John Elway.

The Chargers are calling a lot of people about this job. It doesn’t seem like in-house candidate Jimmy Raye is a lock. It’s the smart move to open this search as wide as possible. A.J. Smith ran this program for nearly 10 years. This is a vital hiring. The Chargers must do their due diligence.

Meanwhile, the opportunities continue to come for Denver offensive coordinator Mike McCoy. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Buffalo has asked permission to talk to McCoy. He is also being pursued by the Bears and the Cardinals.
