In an Insider piece, here is a look at the most overvalued players in the NFL. There is a strong AFC West presence.
One name that sticks out is Denver defensive end Elvis Dumervil. I wonder if the Broncos will try to whittle down his contract. He is a good player, but he's second fiddle to Von Miller when it comes to pass-rushing prowess.
But the overvalued players in the division don’t stop with Dumervil. This piece points out San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers and tight end Antonio Gates, Oakland receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey and punter Shane Lechler and Kansas City defensive end Tyson Jackson. In total there were 24 players listed. Six (25 percent) were from the AFC West.
Heyward-Bey and Jackson are prime candidates to be released in the coming days if they don’t restructure their contracts. Lechler is a free agent. Rivers is safe in San Diego and Gates is probably too, but the team does need to see improved production from these two offensive cornerstones.
