In our AFC West poll this week, we asked if the Chiefs’ planned trade for former San Francisco starter Alex Smith is an upgrade over the Cassel era. As of 4:45 p.m. ET Wednesday, a whopping 85 percent of the voters believe Smith is an improvement. More than 11,000 votes were cast.
I agree with the majority of the voters here. Cassel proved he was incapable of being a quality starter in Kansas City. Smith is a better game manager, he is more efficient and he is more careful with the ball. Smith also has a reputation for being a strong leader. Cassel does not.
So, I understand why this vote was so lopsided. Thanks to everyone who played along.
