Chat wrap: Raiders' future

Here are some highlights from our AFC West chat, which was held earlier Thursday:

Aaron from Sacramento: With the release of Willis McGahee, are there any free agent running backs that the Broncos are interested in signing? Who's still on market?

Bill Williamson: Lots of guys. But Denver seems content right now. It could look for some veteran help late in preseason.

Kansas City

Slick from Iowa: Do you think Dontari Poe could be the force Kansas City needs him to be this year?

BW: I think he will make big strides this year and make his presence felt. Remember, 3-4 nose tackles don't get a ton of numbers, so his success will show more on film.

Robert from Berkeley, CA.: With all of the cap room the Raiders will have in 2014, what player do you see them targeting early in free agency?

BW: Way, way too early to even think about. McKenzie's MO is to keep his own people first. So expect extensions for key youngsters like Wisniewski, Veldheer, Houston, Maybe McFadden. There's no reason for the top talent in Oakland to leave anymore.

San Diego

Nick from Florida: If Mathews proves to be unreliable again this season and is cut/traded, would MJD make sense to SD?

BW: Big year for Mathews. Make or break. We will see on MJD. There are some red flags.

Blog note: I will be away from the blog Friday. I will have an Eight in the Box feature and blog editors will post headlines. Please check back.
