Wrap-up: Raiders 20, Broncos 19

If the Denver Broncos do not make the playoffs, they can blame it on letting JaMarcus Russell go down the field in the final seconds.

That has to hurt.

Denver would have been in great shape in the playoff chase had it beaten Oakland. But the final-second fiasco drops Denver to 8-6. It is still on pace for a playoff spot, but it is no sure thing. Denver heads to Philadelphia next week.

Russell perhaps gave his Oakland career new life when he led the team down the field to win the game in the final minute. Russell took over for Charlie Frye when he suffered a head injury.

This was a huge win for Oakland. Not only did Russell show his team he could help, but the win may have also saved coach Tom Cable’s job. Oakland is 5-9. If the Raiders, who visit Cleveland next week and then end the season at home against Baltimore, can win one more game, it will snap a six-year streak of 11 or more losses, an NFL record.

This game may end up being memorable in both Denver and in Oakland for totally different reasons.
