Third-round pick for Gonzalez is low

I'm starting to get the feeling that a Tony Gonzalez trade from Kansas City actually could happen in the next 48 hours.

ESPN's Michael Smith broke the story Saturday that Gonzalez inquired this week about the possibility of being dealt to a contender. The Kansas City Star is reporting that talks between the Chiefs and the New York Giants have occurred but they are far apart on compensation. The reports says the Chiefs will take a third-round pick for Gonzalez (I think that's a low asking price) and the Giants are offering a sixth rounder.

That offer is ridiculous. If the Giants really want Gonzalez, adding him would bring New York a major step closer to a defense of their Super Bowl. So, I would expect that offer to go up.

A third-round pick for a player the caliber of Gonzalez is a bargain for a contender. Gonzalez is older but he is only 32 and he is in supreme shape. He still has quality time remaining in him.

So if the Chiefs are looking for just a third rounder for Gonzalez, I can easily see this trade getting done.
