AFC West hot seat

We're putting Oakland quarterback JaMarcus Russell on the hot seat this week.

This is Russell's second trip on the hot seat this season. Nothing personal, JaMarcus. But it's this kind of attention that is put on NFL quarterbacks, especially those who were No. 1 overall draft picks.

Russell is coming off a rough game in New Orleans. Part of the new plan in Oakland, under new coach Tom Cable, is to have Russell throw the ball more often. He tossed the ball 35 times in a 34-3 loss at New Orleans. But Russell completed just 13 passes. He threw one interception and the Saints had six other near interceptions.

After being badly outplayed by Saints' quarterback Drew Brees, Russell now has to tangle against Brett Favre and the New York Jets on Sunday in Oakland. Can Russell rebound and get off the hot seat?

We'll see.
