Philip Rivers' late push for the NFL MVP award was recognized as he was named the AFC offensive player of the month for December/January.
The quarterback led the Chargers to another unbeaten December. The team has won an NFL-record 18 straight games in December dating back to 2006. Rivers has started every game during that streak. Rivers was 93-of-137 for 1,316 yards with nine touchdowns and three interceptions in December and January. His 111.5 passer rating and his touchdown pass total were both the second best in the NFL.
The Chargers are entering the playoffs as the hottest team in the NFL. Rivers is a major reason why the team is playing at such a high level. Rivers, who should finish in the top four in the NFL MVP award voting, is very worthy of this award.
