Raiders to play Dolphins in London

More than two weeks after it was announced the Oakland Raiders would play a "home" game in London in 2014, the NFL disclosed Oakland’s opponent.

The Raiders will play host to the Miami Dolphins at Wembley Stadium.

Fan reaction has been mixed as the Raiders lose a true home game but have the chance to spread the their brand internationally as part of three London games next year.

And while the exact date of the Raiders-Dolphins game will be announced later, it makes sense that it would be played in September to keep the Raiders off the O.co Coliseum's baseball dirt infield for at least one more game as MLB’s Oakland Athletics finish out their season. The A’s have home games Sept. 5-7 and Sept. 16-24.

Two other regular-season NFL games will be played in London next season, with the Jacksonville Jaguars playing host to the Dallas Cowboys and the Atlanta Falcons playing host to the Detroit Lions.

The NFL generally has teams playing near the East Coast before going to play a game in Europe and then having their bye week. Next year, the Raiders are scheduled to have non-AFC West road games at the New England Patriots, the New York Jets and the St. Louis Rams, as well as at the AFC North team that finishes in the same place as the Raiders.

Oakland last played in London in 1990, facing the New Orleans Saints in an exhibition game.
