Preparing for the preseason finales

Since the fourth preseason game is simply an exercise in getting the youngsters work, we are going to look at just one key for each AFC West team heading into Thursday’s and Friday’s play:

Kansas at Green Bay, 8 p.m. ET Thursday

The Chiefs need to cut down on penalties. They had eight penalties in week 3. They need to set the tone for strong discipline.

Denver at Arizona, 10 p.m. ET, Thursday

Quarterback play. Brady Quinn had the edge over Tim Tebow for the backup job. But if Tebow plays lights out, it will help his cause.

San Francisco at San Diego, 10 p.m. ET Thursday

Run the ball. He may be a backup, but having a youngster like Jordan Todman perform well could give the team confidence about playing him in the season.

Oakland at Seattle, 10:30 ET, Friday

Quarterback play. Even if Terrelle Pryor doesn't make his debut, it will be a time for quarterbacks Trent Edwards and Kyle Boller to show the team they can be counted on if needed.
