San Diego catches a break

SAN DIEGO -- The Chargers just took advantage of an Atlanta mistake to take the lead.

After a stalled drive, San Diego had to punt late in the first quarter. However, Atlanta rookie Harry Douglas fumbled and San Diego took over inside the Falcons' 20.

Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson capped off the break with a short touchdown run to give the Chargers a 7-3 lead.

It was Tomlinson's 136th career rushing touchdown. He is tied with Marshall Faulk for fifth on the all-time list.

San Diego hasn't been getting many breaks in recent weeks. Perhaps this early Atlanta miscue will set the tone for San Diego in a critical game for the 4-7 Chargers.
