There's a possibility that Denver will hire a general manager to hire the replacement for coach Josh McDaniels, who was fired this week. Brian Xanders currently holds the GM role, but played a secondary role to McDaniels when it came to personnel decisions and Denver may want to look for a more experienced personnel man.
The Broncos haven’t begun their search process and it will likely extend into the offseason. There will be plenty of time to examine potential candidates. But here is a starter list of potential general manager candidates if Denver goes that route:
Charlie Casserly: Former Houston executive now works in TV.
Ronnie Hill: Former Broncos scout who was an executive with Atlanta. He works in the NFL office.
Steve Keim: He is an Arizona executive. He is well respected around the league.
Omar Khan: Pittsburgh executive a top young name around the league.
Randy Mueller: An executive with the Chargers. Mueller has extensive NFL leadership experience.
Jimmy Raye III: Current executive in San Diego has been a candidate for previous leadership roles.
Floyd Reese: New England executive has an abundant amount of NFL experience.
Marc Ross: Giants executive who interviewed in Seattle in January.
Ted Sundquist: Former Denver general manager was fired by Mike Shanahan, but he was respected while with Denver.
Dough Whaley: Buffalo assistant general manager is a hot name in league circles.
