Evening notes: Broncos sign rookie center

The Broncos signed their fourth draft pick and their highest pick to date by inking center J.D. Walton on Thursday.

Walton was a third-round pick, the No. 80 player taken overall. The Baylor product has a chance to start on opening day. By signing early, Walton will have every opportunity to earn the starting job. Denver waived fullback Kyle Eckel and rookie defensive lineman Jaron Baston.

The Kansas City Star looks at the Jarrad Page situation. I get the feeling this is going to end with Page leaving Kansas City. But it really doesn’t matter much because it appears the Chiefs are moving on without Page.

The Chiefs’ website believes the team is primed to soon start signing some of their draft picks.

Miami extended the contract of linebacker Tim Dobbins for two years. He was acquired from San Diego in the Ryan Mathews draft-day trade.
