Peyton Manning knows the experience Luke Del Rio is having this year.
Luke Del Rio is the son of new Denver defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio. Luke Del Rio is entering his senior season in high school and he has committed to Oklahoma State. He is considered one of the best quarterbacks in the country.
Luke Del Rio spent time with the Broncos during training camp this year and it brought back memories for Manning.
“Luke was here, and I can relate to what he was going through,” Manning said. “When I was in high school, Jim Mora, the old head coach of the Saints before he came to the Colts, allowed me to go out there and sit in meetings. I actually got to practice with them a little bit, which may have been as nervous as I’ve ever been in my entire life. Luke helped us out in drills, but they didn’t put him in there with the offense. I was in there looking across at Pat Swilling and some of these guys and I was 17 years old, which was great experience for me going to college. I know Luke, this will be a great experience for him, just listening to meetings -- that was big for me -- hearing about different ideas on coverages. I’m looking forward to keeping up with him this year. He’s a great kid. I’ve known him since he came to our football camp when he was a freshman in high school.”
