Oakland return man Johnnie Lee Higgins is on the cusp of NFL history.
If Higgins can return a punt for a touchdown against visiting Kansas City on Sunday he will become the first player in NFL history to return punts for a score in three straight games.
Higgins had a 93-yard punt return for a touchdown against Miami on Nov. 16 and then he countered with an 89-yard return at Denver last Sunday. Yes, Higgins has earned these returns, going nearly the length of the field both times.
Now, he can't put himself in the record books with one more return. Higgins has had an up-and-down season. He had fumbling trouble and Oakland claimed Justin Miller off waivers from the Jets earlier this month to compete with Higgins. But if Higgins keeps up this pace, he will not have to look over his shoulder. But he may have to look inside the record books.
