AFC West notes

Catching up on the AFC West after being diverted into Brett Favre coverage:

In Denver, receiver Brandon Marshall was on the practice field Tuesday. Apparently, Marshall is not planning to hold out at this time. His agent Monday tried to re-ignite contract extension talk. But Denver is not budging. Marshall made the right call by working Tuesday. Playing in Denver this year will be the only way of eventually getting what he wants.

The Kansas City Star thinks Brodie Croyle could push Matt Cassel. It would take a lot for Cassel to lose his job, but this will be worth following.

The NFL is looking into reports that Oakland coach Tom Cable assaulted a defensive assistant. If the league finds that there was an assault, Cable could face discipline.

Linebacker Shawne Merriman was out and rookie linebacker Larry English continued to sit out with injuries. English may miss his second preseason game. The Chargers need to get the rookie on the field and get him some game time before the regular season starts.
