Raiders ink Menelik Watson

The Oakland Raiders have signed second-round pick Menelik Watson.

The tackle from Florida State was the final second-round pick to sign in the NFL. It is important that he got signed before the beginning of Oakland’s camp. The Raiders’ first practice is Friday. Watson has a chance to start at right tackle at some point as a rookie. He is raw, but promising.

Three draft picks remain unsigned in the AFC West: They are all first-round picks: Kansas City’s Eric Fisher, Oakland’s D.J. Hayden and Denver’s Sylvester Williams.

There have been reports that the Chiefs expect to ink Fisher, the No. 1 pick by the weekend. The Chiefs’ rookies started to practice Tuesday. The full team starts practicing Friday. Fisher is set to be the starting right tackle.

There have been reports that the Raiders’ talks with Hayden have been slow. The Raiders are likely trying to set some injury protection parameters.

Hayden’s situation is unique because of health reasons. He had surgery in the spring to repair issues stemming from a life-threatening heart surgery he had last November. The Raiders have said they expect Hayden to be ready for training camp. But there hasn’t been any recent prognosis from the team.
