Next up: Sam Acho, LB
Reason to re-sign: When he’s given an opportunity to play, Acho can be effective. He returned to the field in 2014 after missing the last 13 games of 2013 with a fractured fibula. He finished with 28 tackles, an interception and a sack. Acho began the season filling in for the injured Alex Okafor and his role increased even more when Matt Shaughnessy went down from Weeks 6 to 13 with a knee injury. During that stretch, Acho had 20 of his 28 tackles. He’s a solid backup and can contribute when called upon. He’s also a presence in the locker room that any team would like to have. Acho has been great for the Cardinals in the community.
Reason not to re-sign: When it comes to the depth chart, the Cardinals don’t need Acho. They’ll enter 2015 with Okafor, who had eight sacks last season, on one side and Shaughnessy on the other. Acho would be the odd man out. He earned $1.43 million last year, a number that would go up if the Cardinals bring him back. With Marcus Benard equally as effective with the opportunity, yet earning much less, Acho’s value doesn’t equal his snaps or production. He played nine, five and 18 snaps in the last three regular-season games last season.
Prediction: Acho's salary simply isn’t worth it to the Cardinals when considering how his playing time declined toward the end of the season.
