Breaking down Jon Asamoah's contract

The worst-kept secret of free agency was the Atlanta Falcons' plan to land guard Jon Asamoah from Kansas City.

Asamoah was drafted by Falcons assistant general manager Scott Pioli when Pioli was the Chiefs' general manager. It was a natural fit for the former third-round pick from Illinois.

Asamoah signed a five-year deal worth $4.5 million per season with a $4 million signing bonus and a guaranteed salary of $2 million in 2014. That's a nice wedding gift for Asamoah, who just got married a few weeks ago, with his new bride in medical school back in Kansas City.
