As the Atlanta Falcons get ready to start training camp on Friday, they'll be without two players who continue to recover from lingering injuries.
Both defensive tackle Corey Peters and safety Zeke Motta will begin camp on the physically unable to perform list, the team said Tuesday. Peters suffered an Achilles tear toward the end of last season, while Motta had at least one surgery after suffering a cervical fracture at C1 last December against Green Bay.
Peters, who had surgery at the end of December, is optimistic about being ready for the regular season opener (Sept.7), but Motta is not expected to play in 2014. He was supposed to have a follow-up appointment earlier this month and may have had another procedure in the process. In the end, Motta could be placed on injured reserve with the hope of him being ready for 2015.
Peters and Motta join receiver Drew Davis on the training camp PUP list. Davis underwent foot surgery at the beginning of the month which was expected to sidelined him for six weeks. There is a concern, however, about Davis' ability for the start of the regular season.
