Falcons release first depth chart

With Friday's exhibition opener against the Miami Dolphins around the corner, the Atlanta Falcons released their initial depth chart.

The team listed the defense in the nickel package, with three cornerbacks, two linebackers and four linemen -- defensive ends Kroy Biermann and Jonathan Babineaux with defensive tackles Tyson Jackson and Paul Soliai -- up front to keep folks guessing about their multiple defense. Of course, the look will depend on what personnel the other team has on the field. But against a typical run formation, expect the 3-4 look with Jackson, Soliai and Babineaux up front and Biermann and Jonathan Massaquoi as outside linebackers.

The fact that injured players such as Steven Jackson (hamstring), Corey Peters (Achilles) and Zeke Motta (neck surgery) are listed on the depth chart even though they won't be able to play Friday tells you not to read too much into anything just yet.

Dwight Lowery remains listed as the starting free safety despite coming off a concussion. The team, however, remains optimistic about Lowery making a quick recovery, although there is a concern about this being the fourth concussion of his playing career.
