McClain was expected to generate some interest after receiving the original low tender of $1.431 million. Obviously, such a market never materialized.
In terms of McClain's role for the upcoming season, he's expected to compete for the top spot at nickelback, although the Falcons added cornerback Javier Arenas as his challenger. McClain played well in spurts throughout last season.
McClain also was the team's primary punt returner in 2013, but that has changed. The Falcons signed Devin Hester to a three-year, $9 million contract with expectations of him handling the return duties with McClain and Arenas as backups.
