Steve Smith is No. 97 on player rankings

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith has always been fueled by that massive chip on his shoulder, so he'll probably like the fact that he was ranked No. 97 on ESPN.com's player rankings.

Smith plummeted 26 spots from last season in a poll that includes votes from 90 contributors from ESPN.com, ESPN TV, ESPN The Magazine, ESPN Insider (including Football Outsiders and Pro Football Focus), ESPN fantasy, ESPN locals and ESPN Stats & Information.

The biggest sign of disrespect is Smith ranking behind 27 other receivers. Even though he's 35 and his numbers have dipped, Smith should have a productive first season with the Ravens.

Smith has been the most consistent receiver in training camp, and he's quickly developed a rapport with quarterback Joe Flacco. While he may not lead the Ravens in receptions -- catches should be evenly distributed between Steve Smith, Torrey Smith and Dennis Pitta -- Smith is expected to get the clutch passes on third down and in the red zone.
