OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh didn't have to look at last Sunday's games and figure out what results benefited his team the most. His boss handled that for him.
“I’ve got a big advantage because our owner, Steve Bisciotti … That’s a big part of what he does," Harbaugh said with a smile. "He tells me who we need to be rooting for and who we need to be rooting against. He takes all emotion out of it, so I knew exactly who to root for this weekend."
Harbaugh did point out that the Ravens don't have invest much time in scoreboard-watching. That is, if the Ravens take care of their business in December.
The Ravens (6-6) are guaranteed a spot in the playoffs for a sixth straight season if they win their final four games of the regular season. It doesn't matter what the Miami Dolphins (6-6), Pittsburgh Steelers (5-7) or San Diego Chargers (5-7) do, as long as the Ravens win out against the Minnesota Vikings (3-8-1), Detroit Lions (7-5), New England Patriots (9-3) and Cincinnati Bengals (8-4).
"The fact of the matter is, what matters is us; we just have to win," Harbaugh said. "If we win games, things are going to work out for us. If we don’t, things are going to be tough. That’s what we have to take care of; we have to take care of ourselves.”
This has been quite a turnaround for the Ravens. At this point last month, the Ravens had lost their third straight game to fall to 3-5. Now, the Ravens can win their third straight game if they beat the last-place Vikings on Sunday.
“We’re excited about where we’re at," Harbaugh said. "You can’t really look back and say, ‘We wish this would have happened, or we wish that would have happened.’ But we are in position to control our own destiny. That is what you try to accomplish going into December, so we’ve accomplished that. Now it’s up to us to make the most of it."
