Where Flacco, Rice land in 2008 re-draft

The foundation of the Baltimore Ravens' offense came in the 2008 draft, when they selected quarterback Joe Flacco in the first round (18th overall pick) and running back Ray Rice in the second round (55th overall).

In Mel Kiper Jr.'s re-draftInsider, the Ravens wouldn't have had a shot at selecting either one. Kiper has Flacco going No. 2 overall to the St. Louis Rams, just after the Miami Dolphins selected Matt Ryan. Rice went two spots later at No. 4 to the Oakland Raiders, who chose running back Darren McFadden in 2008.

The Ravens were originally slated to draft at No. 8 that year, but they traded back to get a better value in taking Flacco. But, under the scenario that the Ravens still drafted at No. 18, Baltimore wouldn't come away with a franchise quarterback or running back in the first round. Instead, the Ravens selected cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who ranks second to Aqib Talib in interceptions from this draft class.

It's safe to say that the Ravens are extremely pleased how the 2008 draft unfolded six years ago.
